Cacheberry pi update

The latest thing in this project was to make a gpio plug that I could plug n go. No messing with breadboards or loose wires, but I did want to be able to swap the lcd or gps should either failed and this is what I made.
The start

Soldering iron needs a new tip thus the poor soldering

Tidying up

And with the lcd and gps attached.

Next part of this project is to find the right size box I can use to build it all into.

  1. Looks good :)
How will it work? An arrow pointing to the direction as well as the current and remote coordinates?
Will the GPS unit be aligned with the box so it knows which way it is pointing?

  3. The gps is in the top for optimum signal although it doesn't matter which way it faces it takes regular GPS samples to work out where its travelling. The compass arrow is two. One on top row tells you were you heading and bottom where the cache is, all in three digit reading n, nne, ne

  4. Etc, I'm still to figure out an arrow way of doing it, the display can show what I want in coding way, but so far having cache name on top row and d/t on bottom row seems to work well, adding hint to be displayed has only worked well on short hints due to it having to scroll it, again something I'm working on and also looking at a four line screen so I can have more detailed info like the actual co ords.

At the moment the caches are done via gsak, load into gsak export to windows map csv and place on usb stick in folder cacheberrypi and file named nav.csv plug this into pi and it loads up all caches to around 25,000 caches. After 25,000 caches it does start to struggle with so many caches to search through.
